As part of the company’s strategic plan, United Capital Fertilizer Zambia Company Limited has reached equity financial closure for the construction works for a second fertilizer plant, an ultra-modern Urea fertilizer and Ammonia plant at an investment cost of USD600 million.
The construction stage of the plant shall create over 2500 jobs and later 1,800 direct jobs at the operation stage. Furthermore, the project will have a huge impact on the value chain as 100% of the raw materials will be sourced within Zambia and will seek to reduce the cost of fertilizer effectively. This will in turn usher in a new dawn in upscaling productivity in the agriculture sector in consonance with the government’s aspiration of making Zambia a food basket in the region. The completion of this project will enable our country to have large-scale access to both Compound D and Urea fertilizers produced locally.
