CHILANGA, ZAMBIA – 20 OCTOBER 2026: United Capital Fertilizer Zambia Company Limited (UCF) is proud to announce the successful groundbreaking of our US$1.6 billion Phase II Ammonia and Urea Plant Expansion Project, officiated today by Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia, at the Wonderful Group Industrial Park in Chilanga.
This landmark investment represents another significant chapter in our commitment to strengthening Zambia’s fertilizer manufacturing capacity, supporting agricultural productivity and positioning the country as a competitive regional manufacturing hub.
Β
Upon completion, our expanded facility is expected to become the second-largest fertilizer manufacturing plant in Africa, as highlighted by President Hichilema during the ceremony.
The expansion will introduce additional annual production capacity of 540,000 metric tonnes of ammonia, 520,000 metric tonnes of urea, 400,000 metric tonnes of ammonium nitrate and 50,000 metric tonnes of food-grade carbon dioxide.
As a company, we are particularly proud of our contribution to the Government’s Grow Zambia Agenda, supporting the national ambition to produce 10 million tonnes of maize, three million tonnes of soya beans, and one million tonnes each of wheat and sugar through reliable, affordable and locally manufactured fertilizer.
We are equally encouraged by the recognition of our growing contribution to regional fertilizer exports, employment creation and Zambia’s industrial development.
Β
Our Board Chairman, Mr. Chance Kabaghe, reaffirmed our commitment to farmers, local skills development and sustainable industrial growth, while Wonderful Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Huang Yaochi, reiterated the Group’s long-term confidence in Zambia through its broader US$5 billion investment ambition for 2025–2030.
We extend our sincere appreciation to President Hakainde Hichilema, the Government of the Republic of Zambia, our financial and technical partners, farmers, stakeholders and employees for their continued confidence and support.
Today’s groundbreaking is more than an expansion of our manufacturing facilities. It is a renewed commitment to Zambia’s agricultural future, industrial transformation and economic growth.
