A Historic Day for Zambia’s Industrial Future

On 16 October, Zambia marked one of the most defining industrial moments in its recent history. In the presence of His Excellency, President Hakainde Hichilema, the nation witnessed a convergence of milestones that spoke to one powerful message: Zambia is building, producing and powering its future.
At the centre of it all stood the moment many had waited for.

The official commissioning of the United Capital Fertilizer Urea Plant marked the launch of Zambia’s first-ever urea manufacturing facility, a transformational achievement for agriculture, industry and national self-sufficiency.

Commissioned by the President, this moment represented far more than the opening of a plant. It was the realisation of a bold vision to produce fertilizer locally, secure Zambia’s food systems and reduce reliance on imports.

With an annual production capacity of 300,000 metric tonnes, the Urea Plant now stands as a cornerstone of agricultural productivity and regional supply. This was the heartbeat of the day. The moment where years of planning, construction and belief became reality.
